Saying Goodbye

Hi, my name is Kimberly and I am a piler and a saver.

I can blame my genetics - those dang Brinton piles - but that doesn't help anyone.  I have a tendency to save things for memories and keepsakes just because I have a hard time getting rid of them.  Moving to California was very good for me.  It forced me to throw A LOT of stuff away.  You know baby shower announcements for cousins whose kids are now 10.  Things like that.  However, even with all the de-junking, I still made it here with a few things that I couldn't get rid of.  Well our apartment here has NO storage and we just have too much stuff.  As a result, I have forced to throw things away that I really am only keeping because they are old, not because I use them anymore, or have room for them.

I decided to take pictures of them, blog about them and then throw them out.  Mike is so proud of me!

In 1st grade, yes  almost 12 years ago, Mrs. Lynn had us decorate coffee cans with our hand prints.  I have used this can to store all kinds of junk mostly, until I no longer have a desire to continue storing junk in it.  Just look at my cute little hands.

Growing up, we made plates for each of our grandparents houses and our own house.  That way, when we were at Grandma and Grandpa's house, we could eat off of our own plate.  I am sure this started long before I was born, because I have some from when I was a new baby.  It is fun to look back and remember all the memories that go along with these plates.  However, these plates are not dishwasher and microwave safe, but were always used in both.  So, some plates melted and basically, they were all not useable anymore.  But here are the ones from my grandparents houses.

We would trace from coloring books onto the papers and then send them in and they would send us back the plates.  I think the ones they have now are dishwasher and microwave safe.  It was such a fun tradition.

We have one of josh's plates that he made. I don't think i could throw it away but putting it on your blog is a great way to still remember it. love this idea.

Good luck de-junking! I am kind of sad looking at the plates you are tossing...but you will be glad you blogged about them to hold the memory, but they will no longer take up space!

I'm so glad you are blogging agin. I missed reading about how you were doing and seeing pictures of the boys. You are right it is the brinton gene. we all have it and are pilers! Moving and staging my house helped me as well but I have to watch it because before I know it there are piles everywhere! It drives Matt crazy!! Good luck!
