Halloween!

I know that Halloween is long past, but I had to post pictures of the costumes I worked so hard on. I do have to brag and say that Mike won the best costume award from work, and yes he did go to worked all dressed up.

Zane was the inspiration for our costumes this year. Ever since he could walk, we have called him our Oompa Loompa. He likes to walk around with his hands clasped behind his back. Plus, he has the perfect hair for the part. I found a post on a homemade costume website and got the idea of how to make his costume. He played the part so well, and especially loved eating all of the suckers that Grandma Ann and Pa kept giving him. I had to try really hard to get a good picture of him in his costume, he would not stop moving.

Now to end the suspense, Mike went as Willy Wonka. We had a heck of a time trying to find a jacket for him. Since he works in a lab, we settled on dying a lab coat purple. However, all lab coats are mostly polyester, to repel stains, so instead of the dark purple we were hoping for, we ended up with more of a lavender color. I bought a black top hat, since they don't sell brown ones, and hot glued felt all over it. Yes, I did have the burns all over my hands to prove it. He wore clothes that he already had the matched what Wonka wore and borrowed a cane from my dad. When it came time for the voting at work, it was between Mike and a big guy (think over 6 foot and about 300 pounds) dressed as a pimp. Fortunately, I knew that he couldn't be Wonka without candy and bought a bag of authentic Wonka candy (nerds, laffy taffy, etc.) so Mike stuffed his pockets full. As they asked for applause on who should win, Mike started tossing candy out into the crowd and that sealed the deal. We won a $25 gift certificate to Red Lobster, so it was all worth it, once we actually get our date night out of it. It also helped that I took Zane in his costume out to visit Mike at work.

I was the Wonka Bar. I wish I had a fun story to explain this, but I just wanted a costume I could have on, but easily remove so Zane couldn't ruin it. It was really fun to make and turned out a lot better than I expected. A big thanks goes out to my mom for helping me so much with the sewing. She made Zane's pants and finished my candy bar edges for me. It was very fun and I am grateful to Mike for indulging me and dressing up with us, even if it took up too much of my time to do. At least I enjoyed the whole process!

My mom's promised to teach me to sew when things are a little less crazy...

Hey Kim, I don't know if you even remember me but we were in MacArthur together. It's funny that I ran across your Blog because we moved no too long ago and I was sorting through some boxes and found pictures from way back in the day. There was one of us at MacArthur during the Halloween parade. Those were some fun times ! I also know your Husband from High School. You have a cute Family and I love that your Son was an oompa loompa for Halloween, classic !

Take Care !
