Arizona's Wonderful Weather

Today we were able to take advantage of Arizona's wonderful weather by going to the Phoenix Zoo. Zane and I went with Julie and Ayla Burnham; Amy, Kenna and Ryssa Despain; and Andrea and Jayden Johnson. Amy and Ryssa left early so the rest of us enjoying having the zoo almost to ourselves. We got to see all of the animals and Zane actually noticed the animals and was pointing them out. He especially loved the Monkey Village.

The kids loved playing on the playground. We even ate lunch there because we couldn't tear them away from the playhouse.

The excitement of the day came from the tale of the tortoise and the peacock. You see, the male peacock and two of his lady friends thought that they would sneak into the tortoise exhibit to partake of the wonderful food there. However, the male could not help himself and had to impress the ladies. he was strutting his stuff and fluffing his feathers.

Little did he know, that the tortoise was getting a little jealous of all the attention the peacock was getting. Slowly but surely, the tortoise made his way over to the peacocks. The ladies took notice and left the enclosure. The male, on the other hand, still didn't take the hint and kept strutting around. The tortoise reached the peacock, stuck out his neck, and was opening his mouth. He meant business. His pride hurt, the peacock lowered his feathers and dodged the tortoise. He never left the exhibit, but the tortoise was satisfied and left the peacock in peace.

The female peacocks must have also enjoyed the show, because they stuck around outside the exhibit to watch the male make a fool of himself. (Don't worry, the zookeepers happened to be right there to make sore that no animals were hurt in the filming of the story!)
