Well, at least we hope he can hear better now that he had tubes put in his ears on the 6th. We had to be at the surgery center at 7:15 am. A big thanks goes to the Porters for keeping Nate while we were gone. As I filled out paperwork, Daddy set Zane up with a Veggie Tales movie on the little tv in the waiting room. We didn't have to wait very long before they called us back to the pre-op room. Even though we had to get up early, Zane was pretty happy while we waited. He loved having all of Daddy's attention. There were two kids waiting before us. Zane did much better waiting than the boy next to us, as you can hear on the video.
Thankfully, the procedures are quick and we only had to wait about 15 minutes before the doctor came into talk to us. Soon after, a nice older nurse came to carry Zane away. He was not happy about that and cried for Daddy all the way back. We went around the corner to wait in the recovery room. There was a very drowsy four-year-old little boy that had just had his tongue tie clipped. We were glad that we got Nate's tongue tie clipped when he won't remember it. A little girl in the room was asleep across her parent's laps. The little boy before us came out before long. The nurses brought him out fighting mad. We all laughed when they told the parents that he yelled "I hate you, I hate you!" as the doctor carried him back. His parents couldn't believe it. Soon we heard Zane whining for daddy.
They brought him out into Daddy's arms and Mommy got him some juice. After about five minutes, he was awake enough to stop crying and start asking for a party. We called Grandma Ann to tell her how things had gone and all Zane could ask for was a party with apples. He even was up and walking around before they released us to go home. He did really well. Both ears had thick fluid behind the ear drums, which they suctioned out. All the way home he was alert and pointing out everything he could see. As we got closer to home, he started crying because he did not want to go home. He wanted "My Nate" and he wanted to go to a party. We told him we would go to Grandma Ann and Pa's house that night for a party. That wasn't enough to stop the crying, but a bribe of Pop Tarts helped him be happy.
We thought he might be drowsy or grouchy. He was neither. Zane was bouncing off the walls and was very happy. He stayed up for 14 hours that day. At our "party" with Grandma Ann and Pa, we knew it was time to go home when Zane couldn't calm himself down.
I wish that I could say that he has calmed down, but he hasn't. He is either bouncing off the walls or having a tantrum. He has also stopped taking naps and is up by 7:30 or 8 every morning, which is not normal. It sounds a lot like a reaction that Aunt Stephie had when she was little to being sedated. Hers lasted for 5 days. We hope he calms down soon.

I hope the tubes work for Zane. Tubes have made a HUGE difference for both of my boys.
