Zane has been full of energy lately. He has been giving me a run for my money. On February 21st, we decided to try weaning Zane of the binkie again. He was just using the binkie at nap time and bed time in September, but was having serious withdrawal fits everyday. Then after Gavin died, we all kind of regressed. Mike and I have been trying to decide what to do first, get rid of the binkie or potty train. We weren't getting very far on the potty training and I was tired of Zane talking with his binkie in, so we decided to try again. When he woke up on Saturday, we took the binkie and left it in the bed and once he got busy he forgot about it. Since then, he has not had it all during the day. There have been several times when he has begged to go to bed so that he can have his binky. A couple times we put him back in the crib, he would suck on the binky for a minute, and then leave it in the crib and go on with his day. When he asks for a binky, we tell him that he is a big boy and that he doesn't need a binky. We are excited for this big step!
On the 23rd, we were getting the boys out of the bathtub. Zane ran into the living room in nothing but a towel. Mike and I were trying to get Nate in a diaper since usually he is the one with the loaded cannon. Zane started peeing on the floor and Mike told him to stop and that we only pee in the potty. He jumped up and ran into the bathroom saying he needed to go potty. We thought that was cute but thought he had already gone all over the floor. As Mike cleaned it up and I got Nate into his jammies, we were talking about how maybe watching himself pee would help him learn when he needs to go. Zane came running in yelling that he went potty. I told him I would go look in a minute. He had never gone, even on accident when he was sitting on the potty. When I saw pee in the potty, I yelled "You went pee in the potty!" Mike came in quickly and started cheering too. He had done it! We got his jammies on and then had to run over and tell Grandma and Papa what Zane had done. They were so excited too!. Of course, we had to call Grandma Ann too and she was excited as well. Zane got M&M's as a treat. We were very hopeful.
The next day, Zane wanted to wear his Lightning McQueen (Pull-ups). They didn't help him go potty, but it is a start. After baths at night, he wants to go and get a treat. It isn't much, but I am hoping that it is at least a start. We are excited for baby steps.
Mike laughs and says that maybe getting rid of the binky was the trick to potty training. We are excited for this new big boy to emerge. Daddy is definitely ready to stop having 2 kids in diapers.

Potty training is quite the journey! My only advice is this...patience. I guess it happens over night with some kids but took me awhile with Hallie. I love the pic. at the top of your blog. So cute!
