Fourth of July Fun

All of the extended Gifford family got to come out to Arizona to visit us this year for the Fourth of July. We had so much fun hanging out by the pool, swimming, eating out at Rosa's, eating all kinds of scrumptious food like Thrifty's Rocky Road ice cream, playing games and just having fun! I was having too much fun to even take pictures. Uncle Ed and Uncle Pete took a bunch, so if you are reading this, send some our way!

I woke up early on the 4th to go get my fruit and veggie basket from the co-op I was a part of. I was trying to be ready for the day before I left so that I could just come home, get the boys and go to the neighborhood parade at my parents. Well, I wasn't all the way ready and then had to wait for a long time to pick up my basket. I was already running late and rushing around, but at the last minute Mike decided to go with us. We were so glad that he came, but we missed most of the parade. When we went to meet the parade, Zane refused to ride in it because they were riding in the street and not on the sidewalk. Of all the times he wants to follow the rules, why does he pick the time that he can break the rules? I guess I should just be glad that he was listening to me at some point. He did look really cute on his scooter though.

Zane, of course, wanted pancakes, so Pa helped us make a big pancake breakfast. After breakfast, Mike and Nate went home for naps. Zane and I went shopping with Grandma Ann, Guen, Bethany and Julie. We got home just in time to go over to the Gifford barbeque. And what is a 4th of July barbeque without swimming? Nothing I tell ya!
After swimming we rushed over to my parent's house for Ayla's birthday party. Ayla's birthday was the 3rd, but why not celebrate on the 4th, so we did! She was such a cute cowgirl in her red hat and boots at her cowgirl party. Julie did an awesome job on the cakes. I had to get a picture of her trying on the clothes we gave her. The glasses make her look a little like the Church Lady, don't ya think?
Then, it was off to put the boys to bed. Right after we put them down, I was in our bathroom and kept hearing fireworks going off. I yelled to Mike, but he thought they were just someone int eh neighborhood. I knew they were professional and so we went out to look. Sure enough, one of the churches by us was setting off fireworks. We jumped in the van and picked up Karma and Charlie who were also out looking and headed off to get a better view. Of course we pulled in right when it was the grand finale. We looked at the clock and saw that Tempe's were just about to start. We were already on Val Vista and McKellips, so we jumped on the 202 in search of more fireworks. We were up on the freeway as they were setting off the fireworks from the Mill Ave. Bridge. It was an excellent view of the fireworks and all the behind the scenes stuff. We were close enough to taste them. We, of course, didn't stop on the freeway, but Mike found the scenic route home through Tempe just for Charlie. It was funny when we got home about 45 minutes later, no one knew where we had gone, or the adventure we had had. It was a great way to end a great day.

I am so greatful to live in this country where we are free to choose so many things for ourselves. I am so greatful for those who have given their lives to protect those freedoms that I enjoy every day. I am greatful that we have a day to stop and think about how blessed we are to live in America and to thank those who allow us our freedoms!
