Before we moved, Southwest had an airfare sale and we decided to use the ticket I had leftover from not flying to CA to find an apartment and buy Zane a ticket so we could fly home for Andrea's baptism and Rebecca's blessing. It only cost us like $100 for all three of us to fly.
It was the boys' first trip on an airplane and Zane was SOOO excited! Nate was a little confused and thought I was going to take him in my suitcase. Silly boy!
Our flight was scheduled to leave in the afternoon. Mike had class, so I decided that I would just drive myself to the airport and Mike would just come and pick up the can later. I had everything packed early, but wanted to get everything cleaned up before we left. However, our apartment complex was in the middle of resurfacing our entire parking lot. Our section was scheduled for the day before we left, but on the 22nd when we were supposed to leave, we still couldn't park in our spot and couldn't get to where we live from where we were parked without going out of the complex. I hiked over to our van with the kids in tow, carrying a few things. then we had to go out and around the complex to get back to our apartment. They had just freshly and I wasn't sure they would let me in, but thankfully they did. I left the kids buckled in, loaded up the car and off we went to the airport.
Each boy had their own backpack and Zane's rolled. I also had my backpack with my computer in it and Nate in the stroller. I knew we couldn't carry all our bags so thankfully they have curbside check in. I didn't have any small change so I couldn't tip the man that helped me. I felt bad as I drove away and determined to find some change to tip him. Once we parked, we got out and got our stuff. A bus came nearby, but we weren't going to make it, so I decided we needed to walk to the terminal since it wasn't that far. At the information desk, I happened to ask for change at just the right time and the lady with the keys to the drawer was there so I could get change. I went out to tip the guy. He stopped me and told me that since I had the boys still strapped into the car and he didn't see my lap-sitter child, so he gave me the wrong boarding pass. He quickly switch my pass and we were on our way up the elevator and to the security checkpoint. I was so glad that I was adamant to go back and tip him or else it would have caused big problems at boarding. I think it was a big tender mercy.
I tried to make going through security as easy as possible. The kids and I had slip-on shoes and I had our laptop backpack that unzipped so I didn't have to take the laptop out of the bag. I just had to get Nate out of the stroller, the stroller folded up and all our stuff on the conveyor belt. I had tried to prepare Zane for this. He was confused and started to cry and didn't want to go through. Quickly I explained again and sent him through the metal detector. I tried to push Nate through the detector. He didn't want to go. I pushed him through and quickly followed. then the lady told me I could have held him. Mental note for the flight home. I quickly tried to get all our shoes on and all our stuff together. Thankfully, it didn't take too long and the people behind me were very patient.
We walked over to the desk to get our tag for the stroller and then chose a seat to wait. Thankfully the Ontario airport is small and so there wasn't a ton of walking. While we waited, the kids ate their sandwiches I brought for lunch and we watched the men loading the plane and the ambulance coming up to our gate. We got to board after the A group. Zane loved giving his ticket to the lady. We found a seat next to a lady who hardly spoke any English, but was very nice.
Zane loved looking out the window at all the hustle and bustle out on the tarmac. Our flight was delayed slightly, so we had a little wait before we took off, but nothing bad. The boys loved the flight and did great. Aside from Nate throwing a truck somewhere and not being able to find it, we had no major mishaps.
Grandma and Papa were there waiting for us when we got out of the terminal. Zane was so excited. We were ready for a great couple of days with family in Arizona!
