October 6th is and will always be Gavin Day. My cousin Bethany's little boy Gavin was born with a genetic disease that affected his liver. Unfortunately while waiting for a liver transplant, he passed away last year, just 14 days before his first birthday. I have decided that I would like to remember him every year on his birthday and thus Gavin Day. This year for his second birthday, Bethany asked people to come help plant flowers in honor of Gavin and to donate to a toy drive for the hospital where Gavin spent a lot of time. Since we are now in California, we were unable to attend his "party" so we thought it would be nice to have plant at our house to remind us of Gavin. I wanted to take the boys on a trip to Home Depot, always their favorite, to help me pick out our plant.
I told Zane at lunch that we were going to buy a plant for Gavin. He asked "Did Gavin die?" I told him "Yes, but now he is with Jesus and that we will be able to see him again since we are a forever family." He said "Yeah, and Jesus when we die." I was surprised that he got all of this. I told him that today we were celebrating the day that Gavin was born and that we were going to buy a plant for him. He was so excited. We went to Home Depot and Zane wanted to have a say in which plant we bought. We don't have anywhere to plant it, but it will be better in our house anyways. Every time I look at it I will think of Gavin. I knew the perfect spot, on top of our bookcase in the living room. It just so happens that it is under a picture of the temple, which is a perfect reminder of that we can see our loved ones again because of the Temple. We are going to try to get a new cute pot to put the plant in, but until then I hope I can keep it alive...I don't have a very green thumb
